A client from Midlothian contacted Extreme Audio about upgrading his 2015 Chevy Silverado audio system. The Z71 package certainly makes this black truck look amazing, but without the Bose option, the factory stereo is quite anemic. Alpine Electronics has been working hard on its bundled upgrade solutions. The PSS-31GM Direct Fit Sound System turned out to be a perfect solution for this client.
Alpine PSS-31GM Package
We started by taking the door panels off and removing the factory speakers. The Alpine kit includes a 3-way replacement speaker set for the front doors and dash. Eight-inch woofers that include mounting adapters bolt up to the factory mounting locations in the doors. Dedicated 3-inch midrange drivers mount in the angled dash speaker locations for excellent imaging. Alpine includes a set of custom tweeter housings that optimize their location and give the dash a modern look. A set of new 6.5-inch coaxial speakers replaces the factory rear door speakers.
Alpine Amplifier and Subwoofer

The upgrade package includes an MRV-M500 five-channel amplifier to power the system. A mounting bracket locates the amp on the back wall of the truck and uses factory mounting hardware to secure it in place.
The system’s Zero Space 10-inch subwoofer mounts on the other side of the back wall and provides excellent low-frequency performance by coupling to the cabin vents. This allows the sub to operate in an infinite baffle mode without the need to make any modifications to the vehicle. In spite of its small appearance, the subwoofer system produces great bass response.
System Calibration
With everything installed and all the connections made, it was time to tune the system. We set the crossovers and sensitivity controls on the amplifier to provide great midbass in the front of the truck, then let the subwoofer fill in the bottom few octaves. With 310 watts available, the system sounds great and plays surprisingly loud.
Silverado Audio System Upgrade
The client returned to Extreme Audio, anxious to hear his new sound system for the first time. We invited him to have a listen right away. He was very impressed with the package. The bass was solid, the vocals were nice and clear and the 3-way speaker system had the staging up high on the dash. The client liked that everything integrated with the factory radio.
We tempted the client with the 10-inch Alpine Restyle source unit upgrades. The system includes a massive 10-inch screen that is built into a new dash trim panel. The radio controls are built into the panel, to give the upgrade a very factory-looking appearance. The client is considering the Restyle as his next step for the truck.

Regrettably this kit was discontinued by Alpine. We certainly can put together a system for the truck, but we don’t sell things like that via the internet, so you’d have to be local to us.
